CPAC 2010 Presidential Straw Poll: Ron Paul gallops to victory!

Voting reps at CPAC chose Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) as he galloped to victory in the annual CPAC straw poll.
Paul won 31 percent of the vote; Mitt Romney came in second with 22 percent, his first silver medal after winning the last three straw polls. Sarah Palin came in third with 7 percent, and Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.) came in fourth with 6 percent.
When GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio announced the results, crazy loud applause broke out in the main ballroom. When Mitt Romney’s showing was announced there were some cheers, but nothing as loud and rambunctious as was for Ron Paul. Just like when Ron Paul turned the “Establishment” on their heads for the Republican National Convention by bringing 10,000 rabid fans to Minnesota, the American people spoke up once again in favor of the “Champion of the Constitution.”
The strong result for Paul makes sense.
Paul’s Campaign for Liberty and Young Americans for Liberty were a massive presence at this year’s CPAC, holding court in a wing of the exhibit hall and hosting overflowing satellite events. They registered hundreds of attendees — nametags were stashed on Campaign for Liberty’s exhibit table — and worked the vote hard as some other campaigns basically ignored the contest. Those other campaigns won’t be ignorant anymore if they expect to win.
The result reflects two developments at this year’s conference. The first: the mainstreaming (inside the GOP coalition) of Paul’s libertarian beliefs. Ron Paul’s ideas and philosophies really hit home with the American public. CPAC teemed with young libertarian-minded activists who, a few years ago, had little to do with the official conservative movement. The second development: watching Mitt Romney lose his first CPAC straw poll. In all honesty, the Mitt Romney core group seems to be dwindling and Ron Paul has been the beneficiary.
CPAC nominees Sarah Palin, Mitch Daniels, Mike Huckabee and John Thune all skipped. It looks like the TRUE leader, Ron Paul, has emerged.
Another CPAC speech came from Fox News star Glenn Beck who said, “The worst is still ahead of us, but no one has the spine in Washington to tell you that because they don’t think you can handle it as an American,” he said. “We need big thinkers and brave people with spines who can make the case, who can say to Americans it’s going to be hard.”
It seems Glenn Beck is jumping on the RON PAUL REVOLUTION as well. The GOP needs PRINCIPLE and DIRECTION. Ron Paul is just the man to provide that direction.
