Peyton Manning the Great - Peyton Nation comes alive
If there were Greek Gods worshiped in 2010, Peyton Manning would be next akin to Zeus himself. Peyton Nation is alive and well in Indianapolis.
Listen to all the fantastic things Peyton’s center Jeff Saturday says about him:
“He’s confident and poised no matter what the situation is,” Saturday said. “When things haven’t started off great in the playoff games, he doesn’t get rattled. Of all the things he does for us, the greatest one is that he keeps us calm.”
Now take a peak at what his opponent in Superbowl XLIV, Safety Darren Sharper, says:
“He’s been around so long and has played in so many big games, he’s mentally tough because he’s seen it all,” Saints safety Darren Sharper said. “Nothing fazes him. He prepares harder than anyone in this league. He knows how to adapt to what defenses are going.”
Sounds like the Saints are up against “Iceman” with Zeus heritage!
Listen to these quote about what Saints Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams says:
“He’s a quarterback that when you’re going against him, you can see him thinking,” Williams said. “There are certain players, you watch them play, and you just see them instinctively do what they do. But Peyton is always setting you up. He has a mind of a coach in that he’s thinking about how the play he’s running right now is going to impact the next play or maybe the play he’s running seven plays down the road.
“It’s a thinking man’s game when you go against him, and I relish that because as a coach you don’t play any more, and the only way you get to compete is by using your head.”
“The reason I’ve done that is because I know he has,” Williams said. “That’s how in depth and what a pro he is. I’ve kind of gone back and looked at all those things and taken a look at his evolution. He’s gotten better every single year in this league. Hopefully, I’ll be able to glean a certain concept that came up in some of those other games, and we can use it again. But if he’s seen it, he’s prepared for it, and he’ll be good on that. You can’t stay with the same thing over and over again because he’ll have the answers.”
3 time Super Bowl champion Coach Bill Belicheck went for it on 4th and 2 at their own 28 yard line against the Colts in November. He feared Peyton Manning.
Gregg Williams and Darren Sharper of the Saints fear him too.
