Pure Michigan Tourism Campaign receives $9.5 million dollar stimulus
“Pure Michigan” - A campaign that advertises Michigan tourism must lighten the budget after lawmakers voted Thursday to only provide $9.5 million in funds, much less than what original officials were looking for.
Last year, the PURE MICHIGAN campaign was around $30 million - this year the total is around $15 million.
What we can’t understand at Snort Report is, why the hell would anyone want to go on vacation to the most socialized welfare state in the union?
Tourism officials wanted to match last year’s funding level, and said extra money is needed immediately to help with the summer tourism campaign. The television and radio ads advertise Michigan’s lakes, golf courses, shorelines, cities and other tourist attractions.
Democrats wanted to give Pure Michigan more than the approved $9.5 million by raising fees at the airport. A $2.50 daily charge on vehicles rented at airports from the same tourists who they were advertising to come to Detroit.
They can’t turn over enough rocks to get this money!
The Bill for the $9.5 million passed the House and Senate on Thursday. Now it’s headed for Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who is expected to sign the legislation even though she wants even more money for Pure Michigan. Liz Boyd, a spokeswoman for the Democratic governor, said Senate Republican leaders are shortchanging the state’s tourism industry.
Apparently, Liz Boyd is all in favor of more handouts.
Sen. Jason Allen, R-Traverse City, stated that he will work and continue to find a long-term, stable funding source for Pure Michigan. Most other lawmakers agree that PURE MICHIGAN has helped tourism in the state.
With Detroit in shambles, the domino effect is crushing Michigan. If you were a tax payer for the state, where would you like to see that $15,000,000 in funding go? It seems obvious that the pennies are running dry in Michigan due to their own government policies.
