Where does your city compare with the Top 10? Vancouver is listed as Numero Uno but it has some economic issues after the Olympic Games that could sap huge amounts of capital. It might even lead to higher taxation.

Here’s what the Economist says are the most “liveable” cities:

In the annual survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit, Vancouver scored 98 percent on a combination of stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure — a score unchanged from last year.

1. Vancouver, Canada

2. Vienna, Austria

3. Melbourne, Australia

4. Toronto, Canada

5. Calgary, Canada

6. Helsinki, Finland

7. Sydney, Australia

8. Perth, Australia

9. Adelaide, Australia

10. Auckland, New Zealand

The bottom 10 cities were:

1. Harare, Zimbabwe

2. Dhaka , Bangladesh

3. Algiers , Algeria

4. Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

5. Lagos, Nigeria

6. Karachi, Pakistan

7. Douala, Cameroon

8. Kathmandu, Nepal

9. Colombo, Sri Lanka

10. Dakar, Senegal

What do you think? Where does your city “fit in” compared to this list?

What about Detroit? Does that count on the bottom 10 list?

It seems amazing that all of the Top 10 cities on the Economist list are in Canada or the South Pacific? That must be a huge opportunity to open up a can of worms to completely disagree. What about Salt Lake City, Utah? Los Angeles? Tokyo? London? New York? Miami? Dallas? Where are all the cities in the USA?
